For Parents and Carers
We understand this may be the first job and formal employment that the young person in your life is entering into.
Our aim is to create a good experience throughout the process for them from applying to their first day on the job and within their training.
At Target, we acknowledge that we have an important place in assisting young people to grow and develop.
As part of being a responsible employer, we will require parents or caregivers of those under the age of 18 to digitally sign a parental consent form. Your child will be asked, at the time of application, to provide an email address that we can reach you on. Should employment be offered, the form will be sent to you automatically and must be signed in conjunction with the employment contract. Work will only commence once this form is signed.
Please take some time to read through our FAQs with your child if you’re seeking more information.
FAQs
HOW TO REGISTER YOUR INTEREST IN A JOB AS A TEAM MEMBER IN OUR STORES?
To work as a team member in one of our Australian stores, submit your application and complete a chat assessment to help us get to know you better here. By registering your interest, we can reach out to you directly when a role becomes available in a store near you and there is a job match.
I’VE SUBMITTED AN EXPRESSION OF INTEREST – WHEN WILL I HEAR BACK?
If you have registered an Expression of Interest and joined our online talent community then you will be contacted to organise an interview once a vacancy arises in your preferred store that matches your skills, experience and availability. It is difficult to provide an accurate timeframe as each store recruits at different times of the year in different volumes.
HOW CAN I MAKE SURE I HAVE THE BEST CHANCE OF BEING SELECTED FROM THE TALENT COMMUNITY FOR AN INTERVIEW?
It is important that once you create a profile in the talent community you continue to log in and update your information as your circumstances and preferences change. For example, if you move house make sure you update your address and nominate new stores that might be closer. Log in to your Talent Profile here.
HOW CAN I BE PREPARED IF I WAS OFFERED A ROLE?
After you’ve been to an interview in one of our stores, Target will require you to provide your Right to Work in Australia information. This means you will need to provide a valid passport with any relevant VISAs, an Australian birth certificate and also a form of photo identification. If you currently don’t have a passport or a birth certificate, it is a good idea to apply for these now. They can take up between 4-8 weeks and any offer of employment will be made only once these have been received. We will also require back account details, tax file number details and superannuation information (unless you choose the employer nominated fund).
DOES TARGET OFFER WORK EXPERIENCE?
Please reach out to your local store to discuss if they are able to accommodate a work experience placement. Store contact details can be found here.
WHAT AGE CAN I START WORKING?
Anyone over the age of 15 can join the Target team.
WHAT TRAINING AND SUPPORT WILL BE PROVIDED?
If you are offered a role with Target, the store will be in touch to arrange your in-store induction where you will complete some required online learning to then be equipped with all of the tools and information you will need to start learning different aspects of the Customer Service Assistant position.
WHAT TYPE OF SHIFTS ARE OFFERED? IS IT EASY TO BALANCE STUDY AND WORK?
Target has a range of roles and positions to suit all kinds of people. Roles are available all over the store, and we do our best to match you & your interests to the best role that suits you. We employ thousands and thousands of young people each year, all of who have a range of commitments outside of the workplace, from studying at school & university to other commitments like sports and hobbies. Generally, we can find a role that suits your availability and work expectations. If you are successful, make sure you speak to your Store Manager.
DO YOU REQUIRE A RESUME AS PART OF THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS?
No. The resume section of our applications is optional. We acknowledge that for many young people this would be your first job, and therefore a resume isn’t required. You will be asked to instead complete a chat assessment to help us get to know you better. We will provide all of the appropriate training on the job, and you don’t need to have undertaken any form of work prior to commencing.
